Association Points (Back Shu Points)
The Association Points, also known as Back Shu Points, are a special set of points located along both sides of the horse’s spine, 3 cun lateral to the midline.
These points are along the Bladder meridian which connects with the internal organs and energetic systems.
What Makes Them Important?
They provide direct access to the Qi of each corresponding organ.
They are often reactive or sensitive when an organ system is imbalanced.
They’re invaluable for assessment and treatment.
They help practitioners create a whole-body picture of the horse’s health.
They are foundational in both TCM diagnosis and acupressure sessions.
In short: Association Points tell you a lot, quickly.

What Is Equine Acupressure?
Equine acupressure is a hands-on therapeutic practice based on the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). It uses gentle finger or thumb pressure on specific points along the horse’s meridians (energy pathways) to support:
Balance and harmony within the body
Physical and emotional wellbeing
Healthy circulation of Qi (vital energy)
Pain relief and relaxation
Improved organ function
Enhanced performance and recovery
TCM teaches that when Qi flows smoothly, the horse is healthy. When the flow becomes blocked, deficient, excessive, or stagnant, imbalance and symptoms appear. Acupressure helps restore the natural flow and rebalance the body’s systems.
Amberley Equine Therapy Courses provides practical, hands-on training in equine acupressure and holistic therapies, designed to help you confidently support your horse’s health and wellbeing.
Rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), these courses go beyond learning techniques—you’ll develop the skills to truly understand the horse, read subtle changes, and apply effective, natural therapies in a safe and meaningful way.
Whether you’re a horse owner or an equine professional, you’ll gain clear, easy-to-use knowledge that you can apply immediately, helping you feel more confident, capable, and connected in your work with horses.
